There has been huge expectation building around the soon to be released Aira range by Roland. Amongst the four products (synth, drum machine, bass synth and vocoder) due for release it’s the TR-8, a remake of the 808 and 909 (combined!), and the TB-3, a re-invention of the 303, that are most hotly anticipated. The 808 and 909 drum machines defined the sound of house music and techno (respectively). Whilst the 303 was solely responsible for the squelchy timbres of acid house. Anyway, we were one of the first people in the UK to get our hands on the TB-3 so we thought we’d get Paul from Foolboyz in to do a demonstration performance for you guys. The beats are provided by an 808 kit.
Another great weekend of music. And it’s been sunny all week here in London! We spent today down with Foolboyz in their studio and were so blown away by a new sample pack they were using we thought we’d share it with you: it’s the classic Roland TR-808 drum sounds but processed and tuned like never before by a company from New Zealand called Goldbaby. Here’s the link. Go and try the free demo samples, or better still pay a smallish amount of money for some of the best drum samples around.
