Hearts Stood Still riding high in the deep house charts. We got them in to do a production tutorial about how they made the bassline in the track, which we’re told was inspired by the bass in Breach’s Jack.

There has been huge expectation building around the soon to be released Aira range by Roland. Amongst the four products (synth, drum machine, bass synth and vocoder) due for release it’s the TR-8, a remake of the 808 and 909 (combined!), and the TB-3, a re-invention of the 303, that are most hotly anticipated. The 808 and 909 drum machines defined the sound of house music and techno (respectively). Whilst the 303 was solely responsible for the squelchy timbres of acid house. Anyway, we were one of the first people in the UK to get our hands on the TB-3 so we thought we’d get Paul from Foolboyz in to do a demonstration performance for you guys. The beats are provided by an 808 kit.
We have been loving Logic X at the station ever since it was launched. There are some very cool and welcome features in there. We came across this great tutorial by the station’s own Foolboyz on YouTube so we thought we would re-post it here. The tutorial is 90 minutes long and covers writing a deep house track from scratch and runs through most of the new features in Logic X along the way. A must watch for all you producers out there.
We’ve really been enjoying the Foolboyz ‘DJ in 1 minute‘ tutorial series for beginner DJs on their YouTube channel, and are delighted that they have followed this up with video tutorials for more advanced DJs. In fact, so much so we thought we would re-post the link here. This is a must-watch and is based around a live set they did for the station recently. So go on all you DJs get a load of the Foolboyz ‘DJ in 1 Hour‘ series: link
Ever wondered about learning to become a DJ? Or maybe you are a DJ already and want to improve your skills? Well, our friends the Foolboyz have started a weekly video tutorial on their YouTube channel. Here is the link to the first video. The tutorials are designed to get to the point very quickly and to shed light on a specific aspect of DJing each week. All platforms will be covered (CDJs, Traktor, Ableton etc.), but the first series of videos will feature vinyl…yeah!
